Law Firm Website: What It Needs to Sign New Clients

Law firmsBy DS StudioPublished

What does a law firm website need to bring in new clients?

A law firm website needs to show a worried person that you handle exactly their kind of matter, and then get them into a consultation before they call the next firm. That takes a page per practice area, real attorney profiles, an intake path that answers at once, and wording that follows your state bar’s advertising rules.

The short version

  • People search for their problem: "car accident lawyer", "divorce attorney near me".
  • Someone looking for a lawyer usually contacts more than one firm. The first to respond often wins.
  • Lawyer advertising is regulated. Claims must be true and not misleading.
  • A contact form is not an attorney-client relationship, and the site should say so.

Advertising rules come first

ABA Model Rule 7.1 says a lawyer shall not make a false or misleading communication about the lawyer or the lawyer’s services, and each state adopts its own version. In practice that means care with words such as "best" or "expert", with past results, and with testimonials. The firm’s responsible attorney should review the site’s wording.

The site should also state that contacting the firm does not create an attorney-client relationship, and that confidential details shouldn’t be sent through the form.

Intake is where firms lose clients

An enquiry that arrives while every attorney is in court or with a client often waits until evening. Intake that replies at once, asks the few questions needed to check the matter fits, and books the consultation into the calendar keeps that person from calling the next firm. Law firms can also run Local Services Ads.

Being found

Choose the most specific Google Business Profile category that fits (for example Personal injury attorney or Family law attorney). Practice area pages that answer real questions, written or reviewed by an attorney, are what search engines and AI assistants quote.

Questions people also ask

What should a law firm website include?

A page per practice area, attorney profiles, a clear consultation offer, fee information, the required disclaimers, and an intake form or booking that responds straight away.

Can a law firm website show case results?

It depends on your state bar’s rules. Where allowed, results usually need context and a disclaimer that past results don’t guarantee a similar outcome.

Can AI handle law firm intake?

It can answer calls, collect the basic facts and book a consultation at any hour. It must not give legal advice, and an attorney decides whether to take the matter.
